About Hey DJ 4U

Hey DJ 4U is a free music time machine. Turn the dial to any year from 1956 to 2025, hear its biggest hits, build your own Top 40 or Top 100, and let the DJ booth spin a mix around your taste.

Where the charts come from

Each year's list is the year-end Hot 100: the 100 songs that performed best over the full year, as published by Billboard. We compiled the lists from Wikipedia's year-end chart articles, using an MIT-licensed dataset by Kevin Schaich for 1956–2015 and Wikipedia's tables directly for 2016–2025, and checked that every year has exactly 100 ranked entries: 7,000 in total. The 2026 list will be added once it's published in December.

Hey DJ 4U is an independent fan project. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Billboard, Penske Media or Apple. All trademarks belong to their owners.

Previews and full songs

Hey DJ 4U finds each song in Apple's public iTunes Search service and plays the 30-second preview Apple provides. If you subscribe to Apple Music, you can connect your account and hear full songs instead, and save your Top list or mix straight to your Apple Music library. Songs from your own music folder always play in full.

Name That Year

The daily game gives everyone the same five songs each day. Guess each song's year by turning the dial, then share your score.

Party requests

Start a party in the mixer and your guests can scan a code, search the charts on their phones and vote on what plays next. Requests last only as long as the party, and parties close automatically after 12 hours without activity.

Brackets and stories

Decade brackets let you pick the best song of each era and see how everyone else voted. Stories and artist pages dig into seventy years of chart data.

How we make money

Hey DJ 4U shows ads from Google AdSense. Some links to Apple Music are affiliate links, so we may earn a commission if you subscribe through them. That never changes which songs appear or how they rank.

Who makes Hey DJ 4U

Hey DJ 4U is built by Phillistine Records, an independent label and studio run by Paul “PK” Kendall in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Questions, ideas or corrections? Email citylinks4u@gmail.com.
