Top 100 Songs of 2004: The Year-End Chart

“Yeah!” by Usher feat. Lil Jon and Ludacris was the biggest hit of 2004, finishing at No. 1 on the year-end Top 100 ahead of “Burn” by Usher and “If I Ain't Got You” by Alicia Keys. The year-end chart ranks the songs that performed best across the whole year, not just in a single week.

18 acts placed more than one song on the list, led by Usher (4), Alicia Keys (4), OutKast (3), Beyoncé (3), Kanye West (3). 9 of the 100 were holdovers from the 2003 list, so 91 songs were new to the year-end chart.

The 2000s: the sound of the era

Hip-hop and R&B ruled the 2000s year-end charts, with Usher, Beyoncé, Eminem and 50 Cent among the biggest acts, while pop-punk, post-grunge rock and the first digital-download hits added variety. Paid downloads began counting toward the pop chart in 2005.
